The African Democratic Congress (African Democratic Congress) has officially announced former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as its vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, partnering him with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said the decision followed extensive consultations with party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women stakeholders, as well as representatives across all geopolitical zones.

The party noted that Amaechi’s selection came after the conclusion of its presidential primaries, where he emerged as runner-up, adding that his support base and experience made him a key figure in the party’s leadership structure.

According to the ADC, the Atiku–Amaechi ticket represents a strategic alliance aimed at addressing Nigeria’s economic, security, and governance challenges, while promoting national unity and development.

Amaechi, a former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term governor, and former Minister of Transportation, was described by the party as a seasoned administrator with extensive experience across both legislative and executive governance.

The party further said his political reach across the South-South and wider southern region, as well as his coalition-building capacity, would complement Atiku Abubakar’s candidacy ahead of the 2027 elections.

The ADC said the joint ticket reflects its readiness to provide what it called a credible alternative leadership for Nigeria, urging members, coalition partners, and supporters to rally behind the new pairing as preparations intensify for the polls.
