The Lagos State House of Assembly has inaugurated Barr. Adenike Oshinowo as its new Clerk, following the retirement of Barr. Olalekan Onafeko.

Oshinowo, appointed on April 28, 2026, becomes the first woman to occupy the position in the Assembly’s history. She is a specialist in legislative drafting with decades of experience in parliamentary administration, legal advisory services, and public sector governance.

She holds an LL.M in Legislative Drafting from the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies and an LL.B from Lagos State University. Called to the Nigerian Bar in 1995, Oshinowo started in private practice before entering the Lagos State Civil Service in 1997 as a Legal Draftsman.

Her career at the Assembly spans nearly three decades. She served from 1999 to 2006, moved to the Ministry of Justice, and returned to the House in 2008. She was promoted to Deputy Clerk in 2021 before her elevation to Clerk this year.

A member of the Nigerian Bar Association and the International Bar Association, Oshinowo has also received the Lagos State House of Assembly Long Service Award. Lawmakers say her appointment is expected to further strengthen parliamentary administration and democratic governance in the state.

The swearing-in ceremony took place during plenary as the House deliberated on the Establishment of the University of Medicine and Health Sciences Bill.
