The Nigerian military has recorded another major win against insurgency in the North-East after two senior terrorist commanders surrendered to troops in Borno State.

According to a statement released on Tuesday by Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Media Information Officer for Operation HADIN KAI, the commanders gave themselves up to Sector 2 troops in Geidam on July 4, 2026. They arrived in Maiduguri at about 7:30 p.m. the next day and are now in military custody.

The military described the men as “Munzirs” within the terrorist leadership, meaning they held influential roles and had deep knowledge of the group’s operations, command structure, and logistics.

Both suspects are currently undergoing profiling, debriefing, and intelligence exploitation. Military officials said early interrogations have already produced useful information on how the group operates, how it sustains itself, and its support networks.

“The information is expected to significantly enhance ongoing intelligence-led operations aimed at locating, disrupting and dismantling remaining terrorist enclaves across the North East Theatre,” the statement said.

Operation HADIN KAI called the surrender another setback for the insurgents and credited it to sustained pressure from coordinated ground and air operations, backed by intelligence. The military said the offensive has restricted terrorist movement, weakened their fighting capacity, and damaged their command structure.

“More terrorist leaders and fighters are finding continued resistance untenable, compelling them to abandon the insurgency and surrender to troops,” the statement added.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to keep up operations until all terrorist elements are either neutralized or forced to surrender, and pledged to work with stakeholders to restore lasting peace and security across the North-East.
