Senator Ogoshi Onawo, who represents Nasarawa South, has switched parties again. He has now moved from the African Democratic Congress to the Allied Peoples Movement.
Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau announced the defection on Tuesday during plenary after reading Onawo’s letter.
In the letter dated June 15, the lawmaker said he resigned from the ADC in Galadima Ward, Doma LGA of Nasarawa State. He explained that the decision came after consultations with his constituents, political associates and other stakeholders.
“This decision is the outcome of careful reflection and wide-ranging consultations with my constituents, political associates, and other critical stakeholders,” Onawo wrote.
He cited instability within the ADC and ongoing legal battles as reasons for leaving.
“The prevailing circumstances within the current party structure and the endless legal battle it is currently embroiled in no longer offer the cohesion, support, and enabling environment required for me to focus squarely on effectively representing my constituents,” he added.
Onawo said he is now a member of the APM and thanked his supporters “for the trust and cooperation I have received… through this journey.”
The latest move marks another quick shift for the senator. Just weeks ago he left the Peoples Democratic Party for the ADC. On March 12, he was among nine senators who defected to the ADC during a plenary session presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. At the time, he said that move was based on his commitment to democratic values and good governance.
