Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has rejoined South African Premiership side Chippa United, five months after leaving the club in pursuit of a transfer that never materialised.

The club confirmed the 29-year-old’s return in a statement on Sunday, welcoming the Nigerian international back to the Eastern Cape ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Chippa United described Nwabali’s return as a significant boost to the squad, highlighting his experience, leadership and quality as the team intensifies preparations for the new campaign.

Nwabali announced his departure from the club in February after expressing his desire to seek a fresh challenge following a string of impressive performances for both Chippa United and the Super Eagles.
The goalkeeper had been linked with several clubs in Europe and North Africa after raising his profile with standout displays at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, where Nigeria finished as runners-up. He also impressed during the 2025 AFCON in Morocco before leaving Chippa United by mutual consent.
Despite months of transfer speculation, no move was finalised, leaving the shot-stopper without a club during the off-season.

His return comes as a welcome development for Chippa United, who narrowly avoided relegation last season after finishing just four points above the drop zone.
The move is also expected to benefit Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, with Nwabali now set to regain regular playing time ahead of Nigeria’s upcoming international fixtures.
The goalkeeper missed the Super Eagles’ last four matches, including international friendlies against Poland and Portugal, while he remained unattached.
