The Court of Appeal in Abuja has dismissed a judgment that nullified the timelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission for the 2027 general elections.
In a unanimous decision delivered on Thursday, the appellate court affirmed the guidelines released by INEC for the conduct of party primaries and the nomination of candidates.
The case stemmed from a May ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja, which held that INEC lacked the statutory powers to abridge timelines provided under the Electoral Act, 2026.
The Appeal Court’s decision reinstates the commission’s schedule and allows political parties to proceed with activities based on the INEC timetable for the 2027 elections.
More details are expected when the certified true copy of the judgment is made public.
