US Immigration and Customs Enforcement deported former Indianapolis Colts linebacker Daniel Adongo on June 20, the agency said Saturday.
Adongo, 37, from Kenya, was ordered to leave the US on March 23 after overstaying his visa since 2016, a year after his two-year NFL career ended. ICE called him a “dangerous individual,” citing multiple arrests over the past decade for offenses including felony intimidation, battery and disorderly conduct.
The former rugby player made headlines in 2013 when he switched to American football with no prior experience in the sport. In the years after football, he spent time in a psychiatric hospital. Court records cited by the Indianapolis Star show he was ruled incompetent to stand trial in 2017, and in 2020 he was convicted of criminal mischief with damage and sentenced to 364 days in prison.
ICE said his most recent case was processed under the Laken Riley Act, signed into law by President Donald Trump in January 2025, which requires undocumented immigrants arrested for theft or violent crimes to be detained pending trial.
Adongo has not commented publicly and it is not clear where he was deported to. According to DHS data, more than 40 Kenyans have been arrested by ICE.
