Former Chief Security Officer of Khana Local Government Area, Letam Kine, was killed on Sunday evening by unidentified gunmen in Bori, Rivers State.

According to the Rivers State Police Command, the attack happened around 6 p.m. along Polytechnic Road. Kine was shot and the attackers fled before officers arrived.

Police spokesperson, ASP Blessing Agabe, confirmed the incident in Port Harcourt on Monday. She said Kine’s body has been taken to a mortuary for preservation pending an autopsy, while detectives work to establish the circumstances of the killing.

“The Rivers State Police Command has launched a full investigation to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice,” Agabe said. She urged Kine’s family to formally report the incident to help the investigation, and restated the command’s commitment to arresting everyone linked to the attack.

The killing drew swift condemnation from Khana LGA Chairman, Thomas Bariere. He called it a “senseless act of violence” and described it as heartbreaking. Bariere noted this is the second such attack in weeks in the area, after the murder of Clement Deegbara of Kpong Community.

“The repeated attacks suggest the activities of armed criminal gangs determined to undermine peace and security in Khana LGA,” he said.

Bariere asked security agencies to step up operations across Khana, prosecute anyone found culpable, and called on residents to stay calm and share timely information with authorities. He also extended condolences to Kine’s family and prayed for them.

Protecting lives and property remains the administration’s top priority, he added.
