South Sudan President Salva Kiir has removed central bank governor Johnny Ohisa, the latest in a string of senior government changes.
State television read out the decree late Wednesday. It gave no reason for the dismissal. Kiir appointed Addis Ababa Othow to take over. Othow last served as governor from June to November 2025.
Ohisa is a veteran economist. He had been reappointed earlier this year after serving two previous terms at the central bank.
The shake-up comes as Kiir pushes through sweeping personnel changes at the top of government. Analysts link the moves to efforts to consolidate power amid ongoing questions about succession.
South Sudan’s economy remains under strain. The government is dealing with falling oil revenues, frequent cash shortages, rising inflation and a weakening currency.
