Segun Aina officially stepped into office on Friday as the new registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, taking charge at the board’s headquarters in Bwari, Abuja.
The 40-year-old professor of computer engineering succeeds Ishaq Oloyede, whose 10-year, two-term tenure ended on July 31, 2026.
President Bola Tinubu had appointed Aina on May 21. At 39, he was already one of Nigeria’s youngest computer engineering professors. His appointment now makes him the youngest person to lead JAMB.
In a statement announcing the appointment, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described Aina as “a distinguished academic and systems expert with extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public-sector institutional reform.”
In his inaugural address, Aina pledged to protect JAMB’s credibility and said the board will pour more resources into modern technology to curb exam malpractice.
He also sent a warning to malpractice syndicates: “Their business is in a wrong institution.”
Aina added that under his leadership, JAMB will deepen collaboration with security agencies to strengthen the integrity of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
Oloyede bows out after a decade that saw JAMB move largely online, and Aina now inherits the task of sustaining and upgrading that system.
