Justice Faruku Bunza of the Kebbi State High Court has regained his freedom and returned home safely one week after his abduction.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the release on Monday through its Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman, stating that both the judge’s family and the Kebbi State Ministry of Justice had verified his return.
According to the police, the kidnappers demanded ransom but the Command maintained its policy against ransom payments, and no money was exchanged.
Security agencies said investigations have been intensified to track down those responsible and bring them to justice, and they urged members of the public to provide useful information with assurance of strict confidentiality.
The Command also expressed appreciation to residents and partner agencies for their support during the period of captivity.
A family member told Channels Television that the judge arrived home a few hours ago, describing the mood as one of jubilation and gratitude to God.
The family thanked the Kebbi State Judiciary, security agencies, and the people of Kebbi State for their prayers, solidarity, and messages of sympathy, saying the support gave them strength.
