Timi Frank, former deputy national publicity secretary of the APC, is calling on the Senate to suspend Senator Francis Fadahunsi of Osun East following comments that sparked outrage online.
A video circulating on social media showed Fadahunsi telling supporters to “kill” members of the Accord Party ahead of the Osun governorship election. The senator later clarified that the remark was metaphorical and meant his supporters should defeat the Accord Party at the ballot through lawful and peaceful means.
Despite the clarification, Frank condemned the statement as reckless and dangerous for Nigeria’s democracy. In a statement on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, he urged security agencies to arrest the senator immediately, regardless of his position.
Frank also said the Senate cannot stay silent when a member makes comments that threaten peace during an election.
“The Senate must immediately suspend such a senator who can make such unguarded statements. We want to see action taken as an example to everyone involved in election violence,” he said.
He linked the comments to what he called a wider strategy by the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections, and accused the party and the Presidency of double standards. Frank compared the case to remarks made by former Kaduna governor Nasir el-Rufai, arguing that a serving senator should not get different treatment.
The Osun Police Command has already invited Fadahunsi to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department in Osogbo to explain the circumstances around the remarks.
Frank further called on the international community to monitor the August 15 Osun election closely. He also urged voters in the state not to be intimidated.
“I ask the voters and the people of Osun to rise up, vote and defend their votes. The will of the people must count in Osun,” he said.
