A man was shot dead and another left in critical condition in Esa-Oke, Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, after an attack on Wednesday night.

The deceased was identified as an alleged supporter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a nephew of Oluwole Oke, Director-General of the APC Campaign Council and member of the House of Representatives.

DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, confirmed the death to Channels TV but declined to give details on what led to the shooting.

The APC Campaign Council said the victims were targeted because they were wearing APC caps. Its spokesperson, Oluremi Omowaye, alleged that members of rival parties carried out the attack.

“It is sad that we are being killed while the governor is playing the victim’s card. As I speak, we have lost about 40 of our members, and nothing has been done to stop this,” Omowaye said.

He also said three other APC members were attacked in Atakumosa East Local Government Area.

The Osun State Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, dismissed the claims. He said the accusation against Accord Party members was false and could not be proven, calling it an attempt to blackmail the party.

The incident comes ahead of the August 15, 2026 Osun governorship election, where 15 candidates are contesting. Police say investigations are ongoing.
