Former Kenyan Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has challenged President William Ruto to focus on his political rivals rather than attacking retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking in Naivasha, Nakuru County, on Friday, Gachagua accused Ruto of using criticism of his predecessor to divert public attention from the performance of his government.
Gachagua, who now leads the Democracy for the Citizens Party, said Kenyans should instead assess the Kenya Kwanza administration’s record after four years in office.
He urged Ruto to leave Uhuru Kenyatta, who is no longer an active political candidate, out of the 2027 contest and face him directly.
The remarks come days after President Ruto criticised Uhuru’s record in office, particularly on affordable housing, healthcare and education.
Ruto also accused Uhuru of backing political figures who could challenge him in the 2027 general election, saying he was confident of defeating them.
Gachagua’s latest comments come as his party expands its grassroots mobilisation in Nakuru, including the opening of a new office in Naivasha.
The former deputy president’s comments further signal the intensifying political competition ahead of Kenya’s 2027 general election.
