President Daniel Francisco Chapo has named new leadership for Mozambique’s central bank.
Waldemar Fernando de Sousa will take over as Governor of the Bank of Mozambique, with Felisberto Dinis Navalha appointed as Deputy Governor.
They replace Rogerio Zandamela, who led the institution from August 2016 until August 2026.
As governor, de Sousa will head the bank’s board of directors, represent the bank to government and international partners, and oversee senior management and operations.
Navalha will sit on the board and act for the governor during absences. He will also handle duties assigned under the law.
The Bank of Mozambique manages monetary and exchange-rate policy, foreign reserves, and supervision of financial institutions. It plays a central role in keeping prices and the financial system stable.
The swearing-in ceremony is set for Wednesday, September 2, at the presidential office in Maputo and will be led by President Chapo.
