The Federal Government will commence repair work on the damaged expansion joints on the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on September 8, 2026.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement saying the repair is in line with an earlier announcement by the Federal Ministry of Works.
The rehabilitation was initially scheduled to begin in August but was suspended to allow for further traffic management planning following concerns over the short notice given to motorists.
The two-week project, directed by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, involves replacing deteriorating expansion joints to improve the bridge’s structural integrity, road safety and traffic flow.
The repair is expected to be completed by September 22.
The Lagos State Government advised motorists using the busy corridor to plan their journeys and allow extra travel time during the rehabilitation.
According to the government, one half of the affected section will be closed at a time, while traffic will be managed interchangeably on the remaining open half to minimise disruption.
The government appealed to motorists to exercise patience and cooperate with traffic management officials to ensure the work is completed as scheduled.
