Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has approved the appointment of Aminu Atiku as the new Emir of Zurmi and Sarkin Zamfaran Zurmi.
The announcement was made on September 7, 2026 by Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada. He said the decision followed consultations and the recommendation of Zurmi Emirate kingmakers, in line with state customs and law.
Alhaji Aminu Atiku takes over as the 21st Emir. He succeeds Alhaji Bello Suleiman, who died on August 31, 2026.
The new monarch previously held the traditional title of Dangaladiman Zurmi. He is the eldest son of the 19th Emir, the late Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. Before his elevation, he also served as Sole Administrator of Zurmi Local Government Council.
Governor Lawal congratulated the Emir and urged him to sustain the legacy of peace, justice and service set by his predecessors. He asked the new Emir to promote unity among Zurmi’s diverse communities and to work closely with government and security agencies to strengthen stability.
The Governor noted that the Zurmi Emirate, established centuries ago by the Alibawa clan, has a long history rooted in scholarship and justice. He pledged the state government’s support and expressed confidence that the Emir’s reign would advance development in Zurmi and across Zamfara.
