The United Nations has condemned an attack on an International Organisation for Migration (IOM) service centre in Libya’s capital, Tripoli, where migrants were receiving assistance.
Videos shared on social media showed people forcing their way into the facility, damaging furniture and driving occupants out.
The IOM said the incident involved “deeply aggressive acts” against its staff and people accessing humanitarian services.
The UN said Libyan authorities responded to the incident and launched an investigation, warning that such attacks must not be repeated.
Tensions surrounding migrants in Libya have increased in recent months, with protesters repeatedly demanding the closure of UN agencies, including the IOM and UNHCR.
The UN urged the public to rely on verified information and reaffirmed its commitment to working with Libyan authorities and local communities.
Libya has remained politically unstable since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, with the situation contributing to the growth of migrant smuggling and trafficking networks.
