In a recent interview in Abuja, David Ige, the Executive of Riverside LNG, a prominent Nigerian energy company, revealed that Nigeria is set to initiate gas supply to South Africa in the first quarter of 2024.

Highlighting the significance of the collaboration, Ige mentioned that both nations have actively commenced discussions on enhancing their energy ties.

Adding to this development, it’s noteworthy that Riverside LNG had previously entered into a gas-export partnership earlier in the year, forging an agreement with Johannes Schuetze Energy Import AG of Germany, signalling a global expansion of their energy endeavours.

“We’d probably close out another segment of the market very early in the year, an off-take for South Africa.

“There’s a massively evolving gas market in the region, around 3,000 nautical miles of Nigeria. So that covers southern Africa, western Africa, all to northwest Europe and the Caribbean and South America broadly”, he said.

As per the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Nigeria possesses proven gas reserves of 202 trillion cubic feet that remain untapped.
