Residents who spoke to newsmen said that herdsmen attacked mourners at Ugwuijoro Nimbo community killing four people instantly.

Although some residents said four corpses had been recovered, the community have formed search parties as so many people are currently missing.

One of the residents, Chijoke Okunna gave accounts of what happened, adding that seven people were seriously inflicted with machete cuts.

He gave the names of some of the victims as Okeh Simon Ugwu, Oruku Okeh Chukwuebuka, Julius Ogbonna Odiegwu and Gabriel Ugwor Ezea.

A police source who was among the Rapid Response Team dispatched to the community, confirmed that the entire community had been deserted.

Meanwhile, the Enugu State Police has confirmed the attack.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the incident, however, could not immediately provide details.

He said, “Please I am putting something together on the attack. You will get it soonest.”

It should be recalled that in April 2016, Fulani herdsmen attacked the Nimbo community and killed at least 14 people.
