The United Kingdom has applied sanctions against Uganda’s Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, and two Members of Parliament, Mary Goretti Kitutu and Agnes Nandutu, citing accusations of corruption.

The sanctions, involving travel restrictions and asset freezes, were imposed based on allegations that the individuals misappropriated resources intended for impoverished communities.

According to a statement released by the British Foreign Office, Kitutu and Nandutu are accused of embezzling thousands of metal roofing sheets designated for vulnerable populations in the Karamoja region.

These actions are alleged to have deprived those most in need.

Anita Among, Uganda’s Speaker of Parliament, has also been implicated in corrupt activities, particularly involving parliamentary funds.

Among dismissed the allegations, attributing them to unfounded rumors possibly sparked by her public stance on Uganda’s stringent anti-LGBT legislation.

The sanctions imposed by the UK signal a firm stance against corruption and underscore the international community’s commitment to combatting financial malpractice and misuse of public resources.
