Nigerian Government Declares Public Holidays for Christmas, New Year Celebrations

In an announcement on Friday, December 22, 2023, the Federal Government, through the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, officially declared Monday and Tuesday, December 25 and 26, 2023, as well as Monday, January 1, 2024, as public holidays to observe the festivities of Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo conveyed warm felicitations to Christians and all Nigerians, both at home and in the Diaspora, on these public holidays.

Emphasising the significance of emulating the virtues of Jesus Christ, he encouraged Christians to embody qualities such as humility, service, compassion, and patience.

Underlining the crucial role of peace and security in fostering economic development and prosperity, the minister assured that the Federal Government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, remains committed to implementing effective measures for the protection of lives and property.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo urged citizens to maintain a high level of security consciousness and promptly report any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest security agencies. He emphasised the importance of discipline during the Yuletide season to safeguard lives, property, and the well-being of communities and the nation as a whole.

In closing, the minister encouraged all citizens to remain focused, expressing optimism that the year 2024 would bring about positive changes in line with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
