On Monday, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery welcomed its fourth shipment of one million barrels of bonny light crude oil, supplied by the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited.

The $20 billion firm announced that the anticipation for the fifth crude oil shipment is underway. Having received three prior shipments, officials stated that the refinery is set to commence production of refined Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) and aviation fuel (JetA1) this month.

In a statement, the company revealed, “The latest one million barrels of crude marks the fourth delivery to the Dangote facility from the anticipated six million barrels, making it the world’s largest single-train refinery.”

Akin Omole, Managing Director of Dangote Ports Operations, shared earlier at the Dangote Quay in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, that the refinery expects four million crude oil shipments by the end of 2023.

He stated that the remaining two shipments are anticipated in early January 2024, positioning the refinery for production.

Once the full six million barrels are delivered, the refinery will commence the initial run, producing diesel, aviation fuel, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas before progressing to Premium Motor Spirit (petrol).

With a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, the Dangote refinery aims to meet 100% of Nigeria’s refined petroleum product requirements and has a surplus for export.

The facility boasts a self-sufficient marine facility capable of handling the largest vessels globally. Aliko Dangote, the President of Dangote Group, expressed delight after the first crude consignment, emphasising its significance for the country and showcasing the ability to deliver large capital projects.

“Our focus over the coming months is to ramp up the refinery to its full capacity. I look forward to the next significant milestone when we deliver the first batch of products to the Nigerian market.”
