The Oromo Liberation Army, OLA, in Ethiopia set fire to numerous vehicles in Oromia after they disregarded the rebel group’s call for a transport strike, as reported by local media.

Following the strike announcement on Monday, various establishments, including banks and government buildings, have shut down.

Reports indicate that several trucks were damaged in different parts of Oromia during the strike, resulting in some civilian injuries.

“Unknown number of people were also reportedly injured in a grenade attack in Nekemt town, East Wollega Zone,” it added.

The OLA rebels asserts its mission to champion the right to self-determination for the Oromo people, the largest ethnic group in Ethiopia.

Despite this, the Ethiopian federal parliament designated it a terrorist organisation in May 2021.

Presently, the national army remains actively involved in ongoing conflict with the insurgent OLA. This situation underscores the complex dynamics surrounding the group’s objectives and the government’s response to its activities.
