Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho and a prominent advocate for the Yoruba nation, has recently made his way back to Nigeria with the purpose of laying his mother to rest.

This homecoming, poignant in its personal significance, was brought to public attention by his spokesperson, Olayomi Koiki, who chose the medium of a video released on Wednesday to share this news with the public.

The return of Sunday Igboho to his homeland for such a solemn occasion adds a layer of depth to his public persona, reflecting the intricate tapestry of personal and political facets in his life journey.

Koiki’s caption read, “I can confirm that Chief Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho is currently on his way to Igboho Town for the final burial of his mother MRS S.A. Adeyemo.

“The body of MRS S.A Adeyemo was picked up from the mortuary in Saki Town some few hours ago.”

Recall, in ,2021, Sunday Igboho faced a significant setback when he was apprehended by security forces in the Benin Republic, approximately three weeks following the Department of State Services’ declaration of him as a wanted individual for alleged arms stockpiling—an accusation vehemently denied by Igboho.

His arrest unfolded at the Cardinal Bernardin International Airport in Cotonou, Benin Republic, where he was intercepted while attempting to escape to Germany. This marked a critical juncture in his journey, triggering a series of legal complexities and challenges.

Fast forward to October 2023, and a significant development transpired: Sunday Igboho announced that he had secured his legal freedom to depart Cotonou, paving the way for his return to Nigeria and the possibility of traveling to other countries.

This revelation marked the culmination of a two-year legal saga orchestrated by the Beninese government, a period during which Igboho faced trials and tribulations before finally reclaiming his freedom.

The twists and turns in Igboho’s legal odyssey underscore the intricacies of his situation and the resilience he displayed in navigating the complexities surrounding his arrest and subsequent legal battles.
