Two civilians were confirmed dead following the distribution of confiscated rice by Nigerian Customs Service operatives in the Yaba Area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

An AAN Reporter on-site witnessed an initially smooth process that later escalated into an overwhelming crowd.

Amidst the chaos, two lives were lost. Swiftly rushed to Harvey General Hospital, the victim was pronounced dead, casting a shadow over what began as a routine distribution.

Another victim, a pregnant woman, was rushed to the hospital due to the overcrowding.

The operation, which has generated reactions in Nigeria, was a streamlined food-distribution process which efficiently ensured timely access to an essential commodity, demonstrating a commendable and effective system for meeting the community’s needs amid Nigeria’s soaring inflation.
