The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has commenced a protest at the Ikeja area of Lagos State over the prevailing economic hardship in Nigeria.

In Lagos, specifically at the Ikeja under the bridge area, the protest began with unions like the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), and others joining forces with the NLC.

This amalgamation of voices amplifies the collective dissatisfaction with the current socio-economic challenges.

The convergence point in Ikeja served as the starting point for the rally, which is slated to traverse a three-kilometre route to reach the State House of Assembly in Alausa.

Notably, the landscape was marked by a significant deployment of security personnel, including Policemen stationed at major junctions, a precautionary measure in response to the Federal Government’s commitment to maintaining peace and order during the protests.

This orchestrated demonstration comes on the heels of a last-minute attempt by the Federal Government to avert the impending NLC two-day warning strike and national protests.

Despite these efforts, the gathering momentum suggests a resolute stance by the unions and their members against the prevailing economic challenges gripping the nation.
