Liberia’s National Port Authority (NPA) has ousted ten senior officials over allegations of corruption, according to NPA’s Managing Director, Sekou Hussein Dukuly.

He revealed that the individuals engaged in “financial improprieties” as per an internal investigation, and the case has now been handed over to the police for prosecution.

Despite this, some of the accused officials are considering legal action against the NPA.

“I just received a dismissal letter from the management, but my lawyers have said I shouldn’t comment on the details and allegations” Pewu Flomoku, one of the accused, told reporters.

The ex-port manager of Buchannan, Civicus Barsi-Giah, labelled the decision as political and claimed he never received an official termination letter.

He expressed ignorance about an internal investigation. Simultaneously, the National Port Authority (NPA) accused seven seaport officers of conspiring to steal three 20-foot trucks of rice from the port facilities last week.

This NPA crackdown aligns with President Joseph Boakai’s announcement of establishing a task force to combat corruption in the country.
