Nigeria Professional Football League Club, Rivers United secured a crucial 1-0 victory over USM Alger of Algeria in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final clash.

Rivers United Midfielder, Augustine Okejepha scored in the 10th minute to give the Host the lead as he lashed on to a strike from the edge of the box which beat USM Alger Goalkeeper, Benbot at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

The Away sides’ efforts to contain Rivers United proved abortive as the Nigerian team’s physical dominance was a significant factor throughout the 90 minutes. The Port-Harcourt Team dominated the match but couldn’t score more goals.
In the second leg billed to take place in Algeria on April 7, the Defending Champions USM Algers will face a difficult task as they seek to overturn the deficit to qualify for the semi-finals. The team will also be banking on home support as they hope to defend the Title.

The overall winner of the Two-legged tie will face the overall winner between Abu Salim and RS Berkane in the Semi-Final. The latter held Abu Salim to a goalless draw in Libya.
