Belgian, Marc Brys has been appointed as the new coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, replacing Rigobert Song.
On Tuesday, the Cameroon Ministry of Sports announced that Omam Biyick, Ashu Cyprien Besong and Goalkeeper coach Alioum Boukar will assist the 61-year-old who has previously managed clubs in Belgium and Saudi Arabia.

Marc Brys whose last job was a three-year stint with Belgian club, Leuven before he was sacked in 2023. He takes over from Cameroonian Legend, Rigobert Song after his contract was not renewed at the country’s exit from the 2023 Nations Cup losing to Nigeria in the Round of 16.

Meanwhile, In a Post by the Federation of Cameroonian Football, FECAFOOT expressed surprise at the appointment. The statement reads “The Federation Cameroonian Football has learned, at the same time as all Cameroonians, the appointment to positions of responsibility in the National Senior Men’s Football Team. “ FECAFOOT marks its great surprise at this act which opposes the terms of Decree No. 2014/384 of September 26, 2014, on the organization and operation of national football teams.”

“This unilaterally decision comes at the same time when FECAFOOT agreed to execute the Very High Instructions of the President of the Republic by providing frank cooperation to achieve a beneficial pacification in the future of our dear Indomitable Lions.” “FECAFOOT intends to provide an explanation on this regrettable situation, as well as will communicate without delay the reaction it intends to have.”

Cameroon are currently top of Group D of the African qualifier for the 2026 World Cup, following a win over Mauritius and an away draw with Libya. Their next match will be against Cape Verde on the 3rd of June 2024.
