The Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) has issued a 15-day ultimatum to the Federal Government, warning of a potential industrial action if their longstanding demands remain unresolved.

In a statement signed by the union’s national chairman and secretary, JOHESU expressed frustration over the government’s failure to meet their demands since they suspended their strike in June last year, based on assurances from President Bola Tinubu.

The union’s key demands include the payment of outstanding COVID-19 hazard allowances, the implementation of a tax waiver on healthcare workers’ allowances, and the immediate suspension of plans to establish a regulatory agency overseeing national health facilities.

JOHESU’s last strike, which occurred from May 19 to June 6, 2023, significantly disrupted public healthcare services. The strike was called off after President Tinubu promised to address their concerns, but the union now warns of further action if the issues remain unresolved.
