The President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, is confident about the prospects of the Super Falcons at the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris this July.

In an exclusive conversation in Abuja, Gusau expressed his optimism, aiming to surpass the Super Falcons’ performance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia/New Zealand last year, where they exited in the Round of 16 after a penalty shootout against England. The Falcons are drawn in Group C alongside world champions Spain, former champions Japan, and women’s football giants Brazil. However, Gusau believes in the team’s resilience and determination, especially after defying the odds to qualify for the Olympics.

“We aim to improve upon our World Cup performance, where we exited without losing a game in regulation time. The girls have shown tremendous spirit, and I trust them to carry that same energy to Paris,” Gusau remarked.
Acknowledging the strength of their group opponents, Gusau emphasized the team’s respect for them but asserted they wouldn’t shy away from the challenge. “Our goal is to advance from the group stage and target the semi-finals, putting us in medal contention. I have faith that the team will shine in Paris and return home with medals,” he added. Addressing preparations, Gusau highlighted the coordination between the NFF and the Ministry of Sports Development, commending Minister John Owan Enoh’s support. Enoh has approved international friendly matches to bolster the team’s readiness for the Games.

Gusau’s confidence stems from a collective determination to make up for past Olympic absences. With synchronized efforts and support from stakeholders, the Super Falcons are poised to make a mark in Paris.
