Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima has revealed President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s unwavering commitment is to combat corruption without bias.

Shettima highlighted the government’s concerted efforts to alleviate unemployment nationwide during the Second Edition of The Chronicle Roundtable in Abuja on Thursday. The roundtable aimed to assess how Tinubu’s economic and social policies would reshape Nigeria. Attendees included Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters in the office of the Vice President, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed and former Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Shamsudeen Usman; among others.

Despite some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) facing corruption charges, such as ex-Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello, the government remains steadfast in its anti-corruption stance. Bello, who served from January 27, 2016, to January 27, 2024, is facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on multiple corruption counts.

Recently, EFCC operatives attempted to arrest Bello at his Abuja residence, but his successor, Usman Ododo, allegedly intervened, leading to Bello’s evasion. Consequently, EFCC declared Bello wanted, urging him to surrender. Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi supported EFCC’s actions, urging Bello to cooperate. The case is pending before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
