Edo Queens have been crowned champions of the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) for the first time in the club’s history.
The Benin-based team secured a 1-1 draw against Bayelsa Queens in their final NWFL Super Six playoff match, bringing their total points to 10 from five matches, with four wins and one loss.

The Team coached by Moses Aduku clinched their maiden title at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Bayelsa State after Rivers Angels could only manage a 1-1 draw against Heartland Queens on the final day.

Edo Queens took the lead in the 29th minute with Emem Essien’s acrobatic strike before Bayelsa Queens equalized four minutes into the second half through a goal by Zainab Olopade.

As champions, Edo Queens will represent Nigeria in the West African Football Union (WAFU) championship, which serves as the qualifier for the next season’s CAF Women’s Champions League.
