Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, visited former Nigeria International, Tijani Babangida, who is recuperating from an accident that occurred a few days ago involving him and his family members.

The Minister apologized for not visiting sooner but explained that he had been in contact with the Babangidas and had been unable to visit earlier due to a tight schedule. Senator Enoh assured Babangida that the Federal Government would not abandon him during this challenging time. He emphasized that all necessary support would be provided to help Babangida recover, highlighting the importance of showing such support to encourage younger Nigerians to represent the country.

“We need to assist Tijani in whatever way we can. People like him, who have represented this country at the highest level, cannot be left alone in their time of need,” the minister stated.

Babangida also expressed gratitude for the minister’s visit and highlighted the critical condition of his wife, who requires further treatment abroad. He shared his ongoing struggle since the accident, noting the tragic loss of his brother and son, and emphasized that his main concern now is his wife’s health. “Mr. Minister, it has not been easy for me since the accident occurred. My greatest concern now is my wife. I will need to take her abroad for surgery, but it is going to cost me much. If there is any place I need help, it is in this area,” Babangida said.

Emmanuel Babayaro, the secretary of the Nigeria Players Union, who was present to receive the minister, echoed Babangida’s plea. He stressed the severity of Mrs. Babangida’s condition and called for collective efforts to ensure she receives the necessary medical attention. Babayaro pointed out that, aside from those who died in the accident, Babangida’s wife was the most severely injured among the survivors, underscoring the urgency of her treatment.
