The Yoruba film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran Nollywood actress Iya Ile Okan, as announced by popular actor and filmmaker Kunle Afod.

NaijaPunchNews reports that the sad news comes barely two months after Afod visited the late actress at her Ogun State residence, where she emotionally recounted her health struggles and the financial challenges caused by her medical bills.

During that visit, which Afod shared in a heartfelt Instagram video, Iya Ile Okan revealed that she had suffered a severe fall that left her in fragile health. At the time, Afod appealed to fans and colleagues to pray for her recovery, saying, “Iya Ile Okan really needs God’s intervention.”

Sadly, Afod confirmed her passing in an emotional post on Tuesday, October 14. He wrote:
“We finally lost her. May her perfect soul continue to rest in peace. Iya Ile Okan… It’s a final wrap.”

Kunle Afod, known for his compassion and humanitarian work within the Yoruba movie industry, has consistently visited and supported ailing and retired Nollywood veterans. His selfless efforts have earned him widespread respect and admiration.

In recent interviews, Afod explained why he began sharing his charity visits publicly after years of doing them privately. He said the decision came after his 50th birthday and was partly influenced by public criticism suggesting that Nollywood stars neglect aging colleagues.

According to him, showcasing his visits helps raise awareness, encourage others to assist, and prove that several actors indeed look after their senior counterparts.

The death of Iya Ile Okan adds to the growing list of veteran Yoruba movie stars who have passed away recently, reigniting conversations about the welfare and healthcare of elderly entertainers in Nigeria’s film industry.
