South African television presenter and rapper Molemo Maarohanye, popularly known as Jub Jub, has been arrested over allegations of kidnapping a taxi driver and discharging a firearm during an altercation in Edenvale, east of Johannesburg.

According to South African police, the incident occurred on Sunday at about 7:30 a.m. local time after the taxi driver had dropped off a passenger.

Police alleged that Maarohanye confronted the driver over claims that he was involved in a relationship with his girlfriend. The entertainer is accused of forcing the man into his vehicle and firing a gun in his direction during the encounter.

The taxi driver reportedly escaped unharmed and drove directly to a nearby police station, where he reported the incident.

Authorities confirmed that Maarohanye is expected to appear before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for an initial hearing.

The musician and television personality has not publicly commented on the allegations.

The arrest marks the latest in a series of legal troubles involving Maarohanye, who rose to fame as one of South Africa’s most popular musicians before transitioning into television.

In 2012, he was convicted of murder and attempted murder after a drag-racing incident that claimed the lives of four schoolchildren and left two others injured. However, South Africa’s High Court overturned the convictions in 2014 and substituted them with a manslaughter conviction.

In 2023, Maarohanye was arrested on charges of rape, attempted murder and assault following allegations by a former girlfriend. The National Prosecuting Authority later withdrew the charges in 2024, citing insufficient evidence and a lack of reasonable prospects for a successful prosecution.

Maarohanye currently hosts “Uyajola 9/9”, a reality television programme focused on exposing unfaithful partners.
