Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, terrorists launched a deadly assault on the Kukawa Local Government Area in Borno State, killing 15 fishermen and injuring several others.
The attack occurred around 11 pm on Sunday, as the fishermen were engaged in night fishing at a local lake.
Local sources reported that the heavily armed militants rounded up the fishermen and executed them after lining them up.
Some survivors managed to escape with injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment in Kross Kauwa, a nearby resettled community.

Military sources indicated that ISWAP often retaliates against local communities, primarily composed of fishermen and farmers, whenever their logistics supplies are intercepted.
This latest incident brings the total number of fishermen killed in the region to 30 between February and May 2024.
Kukawa LGA, known for its fishing and irrigation farming, has been repeatedly targeted by terrorists due to its strategic location near Lake Chad, despite the presence of Nigerian Navy and Army troops.
