Nigeria aimed to avoid a third consecutive draw in the Group C World Cup qualifiers, but South Africa’s Themba Zwane struck in the 28th minute, beating Stanley Nwabali for an early lead.

Hugo Broos’ men showcased disciplined defense with last-minute stops to deny both UEFA Europa League final hero Ademola Lookman and Kelechi Iheanacho.

Nigeria ended the first half on a high note and resumed the second half with renewed energy. They were rewarded with a wonderful strike from Dele-Basiru, who beat Ronwen Williams for the equalizer.

The introduction of Samuel Chukwueze nearly gave the Super Eagles the lead, but the crossbar denied the AC Milan player, keeping the score level.

Despite a barrage of attacks, Bafana Bafana remained resolute, securing the draw. Nigeria remains fifth in the standings with three points, one point behind South Africa, who have four points.
