South Africa has reported its third death from the viral infection mpox since the outbreak began in May 2024.

The Ministry of Health confirmed this on Tuesday with sixteen laboratory cases reported so far. The latest fatality was a 40-year-old man from KwaZulu-Natal province, who exhibited mpox-like symptoms, including a rash covering his body.

The ministry also stated that the man passed away at home, with test results confirming he had the disease on the 23rd of June 2024. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and have urged the public to remain vigilant and adhere to health guidelines to prevent further spread of the infection.
