In a significant government reshuffle, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi appointed former Defence Minister Mohamed Zaki as a presidential adviser for defence affairs.

Zaki, who served in his role since 2018, was replaced as part of the new cabinet sworn in by Sisi on Wednesday, which introduced major changes to key government positions.

Additionally, Lieutenant General Osama Askar, the chief of staff of the armed forces, was appointed as a presidential adviser on military affairs.

Hala al-Saeed, a former planning minister and key figure in negotiations with the IMF and other lenders, was named a presidential adviser on economic affairs.

This cabinet overhaul follows the resignation of the previous cabinet announced a month ago.

President Sisi reappointed Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and emphasized that the new government should prioritize lowering inflation, regulating markets, and boosting investment.
