Cholera Outbreak in Nigeria Claims 103 Lives, Over 3,000 Cases Reported

The cholera outbreak in Nigeria has resulted in approximately 103 deaths and over 3,000 reported cases, according to the Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), Jide Idris.

The outbreak has spread to 187 Local Government Areas (LGAs) across 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Notably, 83% of these cases are concentrated in Lagos, Bayelsa, Abia, Ebonyi, Katsina, and Zamfara states.

NCDC Director General Jide Idris attributed the outbreak to flooding, consumption of contaminated food and water, and poor sanitation. He urged Nigerians to prioritize good hygiene and be aware of diseases that tend to thrive during the rainy season.
