Police in Zambia are investigating the abduction and murder of Guntila Muleya, the newly appointed director general of the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA). Muleya’s body, found with gunshot wounds, was discovered on the outskirts of Lusaka on Wednesday.
Muleya’s abduction occurred on Tuesday after he left work, and his family alerted the authorities when he failed to return home that night. His body was discovered the next morning by a passerby, along with two bullet cartridges at the scene.
The motive behind Muleya’s murder remains unknown, and the incident has deeply shocked the nation, where gun violence is rare. Thabo Kawana, the top civil servant in Zambia’s information ministry, assured the public that those responsible would be brought to justice.
Guntila Muleya, who took over the IBA in May from a veteran journalist, previously served as the general manager for MultiChoice in Zambia. The IBA expressed deep sorrow over Muleya’s death and pledged to continue upholding the values and vision he championed during his short tenure.
