AAN TV has reported large crowds at MTN offices in Iju Ishaga, Ogba, and Fagba Axis, as affected customers seek to resolve the issue.

The barring of lines is part of the Nigerian Communications Commission’s (NCC) directive for SIM-NIN linkage, with a deadline set for July 31, 2024. Since February 2024, telecommunications companies have been disconnecting lines in phases, in compliance with the government’s mandate.

By the end of 2023, the NCC had instructed telcos to disconnect lines that had not been successfully linked with a National Identification Number (NIN) across three phases.

This latest development has sparked widespread lamentations on social media platforms, with users criticizing both MTN and the government for the inconvenience. Many are frustrated by the disruption to their daily lives and the challenges in accessing essential services.

The situation has further fueled anticipation for the nationwide protests scheduled for Thursday, August 1st.
