(PARIS 2024) NIGERIA: President Tinubu and Enoh Praise D’Tigress for Qualifications to The Next Round

Nigeria President, Bola Tinubu has congratulated the country’s women’s Basketball Team, D’Tigress on their historic qualification for the quarterfinals of the women’s basketball tournament at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

D’Tigress secured a 79-70 victory over Canada in their final Group B match at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium. In a statement issued on Sunday by the president’s Special Adviser on Media & Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu praised the team for their “resilience, teamwork, and diligence,” and commended the coach and managers for their dedication.

Tinubu encouraged the team to continue striving for victory and assured them of his support as they represented Nigeria on the global stage.

Nigeria Minister of Sports, John Enoh also extended his congratulations to D’Tigress, calling their achievement a “groundbreaking accomplishment” in a tweet. Enoh highlighted the team’s historic feat as the first African team to reach the Olympic quarterfinals and praised their performance against top-ranked FIBA teams.

Enoh also celebrated Favour Ofili’s qualification for the women’s 200-meter semifinals, where she posted a season-best time of 22.24 seconds. He lauded her determination and talent, urging her to continue striving for gold.
