The Federal Government of Nigeria has issued a warning to its citizens about the potential for violence in the UK, following the tragic deaths of three young girls during a performance.
Amb. Eche Abu-Obe, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, stated that the violence has reached “dangerous proportions,” with reports of attacks on law enforcement officers and infrastructure damage.
The public is urged to exercise extreme caution and adopt preventative measures, including avoiding political processions, protests, marches, rallies, crowded locations, and large gatherings, and always being vigilant and self-aware.
In recent weeks, various parts of the UK have experienced numerous and sometimes disorderly protests by far-right and other extraparliamentary groups. The tragic deaths of the three girls have intensified the unrest, fueling anti-immigration sentiments that particularly target people of color and Muslims.
The incident involved a fatal stabbing of three girls and critical injuries to five other children during a Taylor Swift-themed event on Monday. The following day, a large group of anti-Muslim demonstrators clashed with police in a northern English town. The stabbing occurred in Southport, a quiet coastal town north of Liverpool, and authorities confirmed there was no connection to terrorism.
