Joan Onyemaechi, a former member of the House of Representatives, has been released from captivity after being abducted by gunmen.
The Delta State Police Command confirmed her release on Saturday, stating that she regained her freedom on Friday night.
The Command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, shared the news but did not disclose whether a ransom was paid to secure Onyemaechi’s release, noting that more details would be provided later.
Onyemaechi, who previously served as a member of the Delta State House of Assembly and was the immediate past Commissioner for Technical Education in Delta State, was kidnapped on July 30 from her church premises along DBS Road in Asaba, the Delta State capital. Tragically, a police aide and another individual lost their lives during the attack.
