The Inspector General of Police Special Task Force on Petroleum and Illegal Bunkering (IGP-STFPIB) has made a major breakthrough in the ongoing fight against oil theft and economic sabotage.
In a coordinated effort with the Department of Operations, Rivers State Command, operatives uncovered an illegal crude oil storage facility in Trans Amadi, Port Harcourt, on September 12, 2024.
According to a statement by Police Force Relations Officer, ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi, the operation led to the arrest of four suspects: Emmanuel Nwachi (58), Adamu Bala (35), Nura Musa (22), and Bashir Abubakar (28). The police recovered 40,000 litres of petroleum products stored in 67 white storage tanks.
The task force also dismantled the facility and seized the equipment used for the illegal processing of crude oil.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, reiterated the force’s commitment to fighting all forms of crime, including oil theft, which undermines Nigeria’s economy. He assured that those involved in these illegal activities would be held accountable.
