Nigeria’s Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, has announced that government officials may face dismissal if investigations reveal their involvement in Nigeria’s disappointing medal-less performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Senator Enoh emphasized his commitment to thoroughly investigate all issues surrounding the country’s poor showing at the Games. Enoh stated, “I am going to engage and interrogate all of those things. You don’t fire unless you interrogate. I am determined not to let things slide; I will address them one by one.”

When asked if there would be consequences, Enoh responded, “If my findings reveal that certain individuals are responsible for the negative publicity we received at the Olympics, then heads will roll if necessary.”

The minister also highlighted the need for comprehensive reforms within the various sporting federations in Nigeria to ensure effective sports development. He apologized to Nigerians for the poor performance in Paris, Enoh blamed the leadership of the sporting federations and stressed the importance of implementing systems and structures to ensure that the best athletes represent Nigeria in future competitions. “We need to reform our federations,” Enoh concluded.
