Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken held talks in Cairo on Tuesday to explore pathways for advancing negotiations on a ceasefire in Gaza.
During the meeting, President Sisi expressed grave concerns about the potential for the Gaza conflict to escalate into a broader regional crisis that would be “difficult to imagine.”
Sisi emphasized that any ceasefire in Gaza should pave the way for broader international recognition of the Palestinian state and the implementation of the two-state solution, which he described as the essential foundation for long-term stability in the region.
Blinken’s visit to Cairo is part of a broader diplomatic effort aimed at identifying areas of potential progress on a ceasefire in Gaza and securing a deal for the release of hostages. However, significant disagreements remain unresolved as the talks continue.
